Jottings...
I grew up thinking summer was 3 months long – all of June, July and August. Now it seems school doesn’t end until into June and restarts in the middle of August. So Labor Day is no longer the defining weekend it once was. The same is true in the church. Choir has had July off and restarts in August. (They would love to have you join them.)
A number of other key events are happening in August and you need to know about them:
- A Bible study focusing on the gospel of Mark will happen on Thursday mornings at 9:30 am starting August 11. If you are interested but that is not a good day or time we might move it to another day or time and/or start a second study. Let me know.
- We have a keyboardist who was hired, Chris Aguirre, who will officially start on Sunday, August 7. I know I am excited to have accompaniment for our worship.
- A workday is scheduled Saturday August 6 starting at 9 am. A lot needs to be done in general anyway but some things need to especially get done in preparation for …
- Our 125th Anniversary of Cole Memorial UMC as a church celebration. Join us and many special visitors and guests Sunday, August 28 for both worship and a meal to follow. Please invite friends and family to share that day with us.
- We also are planning with Love Inc to get our wheelchair ramp updated/fixed/replaced so keep your eyes and ears open for information on that. As I write this we don’t have the date or time fixed for the actual workday yet but we will need our own folks to be present to help when the work is done.
So don’t think of August as summer’s last gasp. Think of it as the launch for many exciting activities that will bless us and help us be a witness to Derita and beyond.
